Frequently Asked Questions

My check engine light is on, should I have my car looked at?
Yes, your vehicle’s computer monitors and records problems from your engine and electrical sensors. These problems can be as simple as poor oxygen flow or as serious as a misfiring cylinder to electrical issues. It’s important to have your vehicle diagnosed by a professional as the problems recorded may not be as easily interpreted as simply reading the codes.
How often do I need an oil change?
Most vehicles require an oil change every 5,000 km or maximum of 6 months. If your vehicle uses synthetic oil, then you can go up to 8,000 km between oil changes. Some vehicles with sealed engines can go up to 15,000 km.
What is the advantage of using synthetic oil vs mineral oil?
Synthetic base oils have naturally high viscosity indices (the ability to resist change in viscosity with temperature). They are also formulated to be wax-free. This means that they maintain fluid film protection at higher temperatures better than mineral oils and have lower pour points and greater fluidity at low temperatures.
How often should I replace my timing belt?
This varies between car manufacturers from 70,000 km to 110,000 km. If your timing belt breaks you risk destroying your engine, so aim to be on the safe side and change it at least 80,000 km. On most vehicles we will suggest replacing your water pump as well which will save you labor costs in the end.
How often should I have my brakes serviced?
Again, this varies between car manufacturers and driving habits. But we recommend you have them inspected during every second oil change just to be safe or as soon as you hear any grinding noises or feel vibrations while applying your brakes. Not all vehicles come equipped with wearing tabs or brake warning lights that indicate when they need to be serviced.
Why do I need to pay for a diagnosis?
The best money spent, is to pin point the exact cause of your vehicle’s issue, before we preform any repairs. Your vehicle is a complicated machine and has a great deal of moving parts that can go wrong. It takes time to make sure everything is in working order and get down to what the real problem could be. In the end you will save money by making sure we are fixing the right problem the first time. Rest assured, we’ll give you an estimate before we preform the repairs.
My air bag warning light is on, should I be worried?
Air bag systems were introduced as early 1983 to save lives. Your warning light could be triggered by something as simple as a bucket senor or impact sensor, but could also be as serious as an air bag, harness, or ECU malfunction. It’s better to be safe and have your vehicle checked if this warning light goes off. You don’t want to find out the hard way that the problem is more serious and not have your airbag when you need it the most.
Can you service my new vehicle?
All service and repair work can be preformed by our Red Seal Licensed Technicians. Your services will cost a fraction of the price with a higher quality of craftsmanship then you’ll get at the dealership.
How does your warranties work?
All mechanical repairs preformed at Heritage Autopro come with a 1 year or 20,000 km warranty on all parts and labor across North America. When purchasing tires, some brands come with a longer warranty. Most batteries come with a 24 month replacement warranty.
Do you have a curtsey car I can use while mine is being serviced?
Yes we do, it’s available to you on a first come first serve basis. Any incidents must be covered by the drivers insurance.
Is there a way I can drop my car off before and after shop hours?
Yes, by the main door there is an envelope/form in the mail box that you will need to complete with your information and your service request. Keys must be placed inside the envelope in the the slot within the first garage door. We’ll collect your car and you’ll be contacted during the next business day.
